A-State Drops Series Finale Against Morehead State, 11-1 (7)

JONESBORO, Ark. (2/17/25) – Arkansas State baseball (1-2, 0-0 SBC) battled early, but a big fourth inning for Morehead State (2-1, 0-0 OVC) was too much as the Red Wolves fell 11-1 in seven innings on Monday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.

Jack Hibbard (0-1) made his first collegiate start, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits while striking out three over 3.0 innings pitched. At the plate, the Red Wolves mustered four hits highlighted by a solo-home run from Kohle Kerin.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame after scoring on a one-out double and two-out single. The Scarlet and Black managed to escape a bases-loaded jam in the second and held Morehead State scoreless in the third, but momentum would change in the next inning.

Seven runs crossed the plate after the Eagles posted seven hits over 11 at-bats in the top of the fourth, putting A-State behind 9-0.

Kerin entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth and provided a spark by launching a 353-foot home run behind the left-field wall. However, the Eagles responded with two more runs in the next frame to move ahead 11-1.

With a run-rule looming, A-State was unable to score a run and extend the contest, resulting in the first series defeat of 2025. Bradley Poynter (1-0) earned the win while Hibbard took the loss.
