Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

A-State Sweeps Cajuns to Move to 2-0 in SBC Play

LAFAYETTE, La. (3/14/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis wasted little time in picking up its third straight win, sweeping Louisiana 4-0 Friday morning at the Cajun Courts.

The Red Wolves (9-4, 2-0 SBC) surpassed last season's overall win total and matches their conference wins mark. A-State quickly claimed the doubles point before routing the Ragin' Cajuns (7-4, 0-2) in singles play. The nine overall victories are the most since 11 in 2012, while the 2-0 start to league play is the program's best since 2000.

"This team is something special," freshman Loles Carbo Chova said. "The work we've put in is paying off, and it's incredible to see how well everyone is playing. The energy, the commitment, and the support from our staff makes this group so strong. I'm beyond happy with how I'm playing, but even more excited to be part of a team that pushes each other to be better every single day. Tennis is an individual sport, but what we have feels like family."

A-State quickly took a 1-0 lead in the match with 6-1 victories on Courts 2 and 3. Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin routed the Cajuns' No. 3 duo of Rocio Amoros Navarro and Ivana Castillo Hurtado moments before Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer clinched the point with their 6-1 triumph over Nina Krecklenberg and Karolina Skowronska at the No. 2 position.

When the point was clinched, Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi led 5-2 over Angelique Berrat and Jenaila Prulla on Court 1.

The Red Wolves continued momentum into singles play, taking the first set on all six courts. Muro Castellvi made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Skowronska on Court 4, and then Carbo Chova won 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6 against Castillo Hurtado to push the Scarlet and Black's lead to a commanding 3-0.

Cvanciger, playing in her first match at the top singles spot, then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Angelique Berrat.

At the time of Cvanciger's clincher, Grigoreva, McAslin and Millard all led by a set and also held second-set leads.
