JONESBORO, Ark. (3/21/25) – Arkansas State baseball (10-11, 2-2 SBC) surrendered six runs over the first three innings versus Texas State (9-12, 1-3 SBC), resulting in a 6-2 defeat on Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
Collin Maloney (2-3) made his sixth-consecutive Friday start, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits while striking out two over 2.1 innings pitched.
Gavin Galy,
Brett Foss, and
Jack Nelson entered the contest in relief, allowing four hits combined over 5.2 scoreless innings.
Cross Jumper accounted for half of the Red Wolves' hits, tallying two knocks and one RBI against the Bobcats.
A two-run double put Texas State in front after one inning of play, while four runs in the bottom of the third pushed the score to 6-0. Jumper broke the scoreless stretch for A-State after singling to left center in the bottom of the fifth.
With two runners on the corners to start the seventh, the Scarlet and Black hit into a 5-4-3 double play, cutting the deficit to 6-2 but stalling momentum.
Only one hit was recorded beyond that point, sealing a four-run defeat in the series opener. Alex Valentin (4-0) earned the win while Maloney took the loss.
