SAN MARCOS, Texas (3/23/25) – Arkansas State baseball (10-13, 2-4 SBC) fell behind due to an early offensive surge from Texas State (11-12, 3-3 SBC) and could not complete the comeback in a 6-3 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.
Jack Hibbard (3-2) made his sixth start of the season, surrendering four runs (all earned) on seven hits over 1.0 inning pitched. Seven pitchers entered in relief for the Red Wolves, surrendering two earned runs over the final 7.0 innings thrown.
The Scarlet and Black mustered three hits at the plate, highlighted by a two-run home run from
Drake Anderson.
Texas State tallied seven hits over the first two innings of action, resulting in four runs scored. The Bobcats scored in the first with an RBI-single to left center and followed with a three-run home run in the second to make the score 4-0.
Anderson put A-State back in the game during the top of the fourth, firing a two-run homer beyond the left field wall to cut the lead in half. A throwing error in the next frame allowed Texas State to score uncontested and extended the deficit to three runs.
The Scarlet and Black scored again in the eighth on an RBI-groundout from
Wil French, but an unsuccessful bid at a 3-2-3 double play in the bottom frame resulted in another run for the Bobcats to close the inning. No runs crossed beyond that point, resulting in a series sweep for the Bobcats.
Jackson Teer (1-4) earned the win while Hibbard took the loss.
