JONESBORO, Ark. (3/29/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis saw its six-match home winning streak end on Saturday, as it dropped a 4-1 decision to Appalachian State inside the Ridgepointe Country Club Tennis Center.
A-State (11-6, 4-2 SBC) battled in doubles, but the Mountaineers (11-5, 4-2) ultimately clinched the tightly-contested point on a Court 1 tiebreaker. Carla Muro Castellvi secured the Red Wolves' point with a straight-set win in singles play.
The Red Wolves secured early momentum in the doubles point when Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin won 6-3 on Court 3 over App's Alexi Cleveland and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey. App then countered with a 6-4 win by Ruby Broadbent and Naledi Manyube against Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer at No. 2. The Mountaineers then clinched the point and took a 1-0 lead in the match when Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Taya Powell outlasted Anna Grigoreva and Muro Castellvi at No. 1, winning 7-6(3).
Muro Castellvi leveled the score at 1-all when she topped Powell 6-3, 6-4 to open singles action. However, Dada-Mascoll won a 7-6(6), 7-5 decision against Grigoreva to make it 2-1. App's lead grew to 3-1 when Manyube defeated Cvanciger 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
Ryan-Bovey clinched the contest for the visitors at the No. 4 position, winning 6-2, 6-0 against McAslin. At the time the match was clinched, A-State's Millard and Carbo Chova were battling in the opening set of their respective matches.

A-State concludes its home stand Sunday against Marshall, with match set for 10 a.m. at the A-State Tennis Complex. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be moved to Ridgepointe Country Club, with match time set for 8 a.m. Admission to the match is free.
