JONESBORO, Ark. (3/8/25) – Arkansas State baseball (5-9, 0-0 SBC) used a seven-run third inning to power past Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-14, 0-0 SWAC) and clinch the series in a 9-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Jack Nelson (1-0) made his fourth start of the season, surrendering four hits while striking out seven over 7.0 innings pitched.
Andrew Allen was the lone reliever for the Red Wolves, striking out three over 2.0 innings to secure the victory.
At the plate, three Red Wolves put together multi-hit performances while
Wil French and
Jake Henry Williams crossed the plate twice.
Ashton Quiller led the team in RBIs, bringing in two on his second triple in as many games.
French broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third, crossing the plate on a balk. A sacrifice fly from
Cason Campbell preceded a pair of RBI-singles from
Jeremiah Cabuyaban and
Jake Henry Williams, resulting in a 3-0 lead.
Quiller found the gap in left center to bring in two runs on a triple before French capped the frame with an RBI-single up the middle. It was the Scarlet and Black's first inning with at least four runs and nine batters this season, making the score 7-0.
French scored again on a sacrifice fly from
Daedrick Cail in the sixth and Williams reached the plate on a sacrifice fly from Jumper in the eighth to extended the lead to nine. The Golden Lions recorded a leadoff hit in the seventh, but could not put another runner on the bags beyond that point as the Red Wolves clinched their first series victory in 2025.
Nelson earned the win while Brant Voth (0-1) took the loss.
