JONESBORO, Ark. (4/12/25) – Arkansas State baseball (15-19, 6-8 SBC) fell behind early against South Alabama (15-18, 5-9 SBC) and could not overcome the deficit in a 3-2 defeat on Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium.
Jelle van der Lelie (2-2) made his fourth start of the season, surrendering three runs (all earned) on two hits and four walks while striking out two over 2.0 innings pitched.
Jack Nelson entered in relief, surrendering one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings.
Ashton Quiller (2-for-4) and
Cross Jumper (2-for-4) led the bats while the former crossed the plate both times.
Cason Tollett finished with two RBIs, batting one in on a sacrifice fly and the other on an RBI-single.
Quiller scored uncontested on the sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to push A-State ahead 1-0. The Jaguars responded in the next frame, clearing the loaded bases with a triple down the right-field line.
A pitching duel ensued beyond that point, with the Scarlet and Black scoring the last run on an RBI-single from
Cason Tollett in the sixth. A-State was unable to score a runner from third in the next inning, and did not have a better chance in the final two.
Mitchell Heer (5-0) earned the win and Andrew Floyd claimed the save while van der Lelie took the loss.
