STATESBORO, Ga. (4/17/25) – Arkansas State baseball (18-19, 8-8 SBC) battled back from a two-run deficit in the eighth to top Georgia Southern (21-17, 7-9 SBC) by a score of 6-4 in the series opener on Thursday night at J.J. Clements Stadium.
Gavin Galy made his second start of the season, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings pitched. The righty threw five shutout frames before being relieved with one out in the sixth.
Wil French led the bats with three hits while
Ashton Quiller recorded a team high three RBIs.
Daedrick Cail finished the evening with two hits and two RBIs, contributing to the Red Wolves' eight hits overall in the contest.
The third baseman broke a scoreless stalemate in the sixth inning by firing a grounder up the middle for a two-run single. However, the Eagles responded in the bottom frame by scoring one on a fielder's choice and another on an error to tie the game at 2-2.
The opposition moved ahead in the bottom of the seventh after launching a two-run home run to right center.
A-State loaded the bases in the next frame, setting up a bases-clearing triple from Quiller to make the score 5-4. French padded the lead with an RBI-single in left before
Chase Richter entered the game and retired the final six batters.
The Scarlet and Black earned their first win in Statesboro since a 1-0 victory on May 13, 2017.
Cooper Garrison (1-2) earned the win and
Chase Richter (5) claimed the save while Jacob Phillips (5-2) took the loss.
