4/18/2025 12:00:00 PM

JONESBORO, Ark. (4/18/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis seeks to wrap the regular season on a strong note, traveling to face 75th-ranked South Alabama Saturday morning in Mobile.

Match time for the Red Wolves' (12-9, 5-5 SBC) match against the Jaguars (13-5, 6-3) is slated for 10 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. Both squads have clinched berths in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships, held April 24-27 in Rome, Ga., and are vying for seeding with Saturday's match.

"We are really looking forward to this match," A-State head coach Sujay Lama said. "This is our chance to really dig in deep as a team and compete. We want to take as much confidence and momentum as possible heading into next week's conference tournament."

NOTABLES:

  • Should the Red Wolves oust the host Jaguars, it would mark the first win over a top-75 opponent in program history.
  • Anna Grigoreva earned Sun Belt Player of the Week status for the second time this season, marking the first time A-State has had multiple weekly award winners in the same season.
  • A-State is 11-1 this season when clinching the doubles point.
  • The Red Wolves' 12 wins are the most since the 2009 squad won 12 matches.
  • A-State's five conference wins is the most since 2000 (7).
  • Freshman Loles Carbo Chova is 9-0 in Sun Belt Conference play this year, picking up her ninth win on Saturday at the No. 5 position.
  • Sujay Lama's 20 wins through his first season-plus is the third most wins by an A-State tennis coach in their first two seasons, two shy of matching Marcia Williams (1985-86, 22), and one away from tying Sara Wooley (21, 1979-80) for second.
