Fredy-Salam Sylla Signs with A-State Men’s Basketball

5/12/2025 12:00:00 PM

JONESBORO, Ark. (5/12/25) – Arkansas State men's basketball head coach Ryan Pannone announced Monday the addition of junior college standout Fredy-Salam Sylla to the 2025-26 roster.

Sylla joins the Red Wolves after spending last season at Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Fla. The Paris, France, native averaged 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for the Titans en route to First Team All-Citrus Conference honors.

"Fredy is a 6-8 perimeter player that shot 40% from three with over a hundred attempts," Pannone said. "He possesses a high IQ, feel for the game, an incredible work ethic and commitment to being a great player. He lives in the gym, and eats, sleeps and dreams about basketball. He's going to be able to bring multiple dimensions to our offense and our defense with his size, his shooting, his handling and speed, as well as the ability to get rebounds, bring the ball up the floor, crack the paint, and spray it out to find teammates. Defensively, he gives us good length on the perimeter to be able to switch, guard, and defend multiple positions, and then utilize his ability to rebound the ball."

In addition to being named first-team all-conference, Sylla was tabbed as a Fab 50 Freshman by JUCORecruiting.com. This past season, he helped EFSC to a 23-7 mark and quarterfinal finish in the FCSAA D1 Men's Basketball Championship.

The 6-8 wing, who has three years of eligibility remaining, shot 44.4 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from 3-point range, while also touting an 80.9-percent mark from the foul line.

Sylla is now the 10th signing for Pannone's first season leading the Red Wolves, joining Jalen Hampton (Missouri State transfer), Chandler Jackson (Florida State), Matt Hayman (Stephen F. Austin), TJ Caldwell (Ole Miss), Chudi Dioramma (Sacramento State), Christian Harmon (Gulf Coast State College), Jaxon Ellingsworth (UT Arlington), Royal Smith (Gillion Academy) and Aly Tounkara (Lindenwood).
