A-State Concludes 2025 Campaign Following Defeat Against Georgia Southern, 13-8

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (5/20/25) – Arkansas State baseball (26-28, 14-16 SBC) battled throughout the night against Georgia Southern (28-29, 13-17 SBC), but an early nine-run deficit was too much to overcome in a 13-8 defeat on Tuesday night at the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship presented by Troy University inside Riverwalk Stadium.

Gavin Galy (3-2) made his eighth start of the season, surrendering three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks over 0.2 innings pitched.

Ashton Quiller (3-for-5) led the bats while four additional Red Wolves recorded multi-hit performances. Wil French and Kaden Amundson accounted for the Scarlet and Black's home runs and tied for the team high in RBIs.

The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame after recording a pair of two-out singles. French responded with a 416-foot home run to right center, but the deficit stood at two runs going into the second.

A seven-run top frame highlighted by five scoring on two doubles and a single pushed the Eagles to a nine-run advantage in the third. A-State added another run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom frame, but the score stood at 10-2.

The Red Wolves loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth before Quiller fired an RBI-single through the right side. A wild pitch and RBI-groundout added two more before a bases-loaded walk capped the crooked inning.

The bases were left loaded following two strikeouts, but the Scarlet and Black closed the gap to four runs as the scoreboard showed 10-6.

Georgia Southern responded in the top of the sixth, pushing the lead back to five with a solo-homer. The Eagles scored two more in the eighth while Amundson recorded his third home run of the season in the ninth, firing a two-run shot over the left field wall.

No runs would score beyond that point as the contest reached its conclusion. Jacob Phillips (7-2) earned the win while Galy took the loss.
