MILWAUKEE, Wis. (9/27/25) – Closing out play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, the Arkansas State women's team finished with 15 victories over three days of play at the Western Racquet Club.
"It was a great tournament overall," said junior Anna Grigoreva. "We battled through some tough moments during the tournament. Coach (Sujay) Lama spoke this morning about resilience and perseverance and the importance of finishing strong. That really helped us get through the tough moments on court today. I also found my confidence and am so happy I finished strong with my 2 singles wins. A special thank you to all of our host families who were simply the best all week long."
A-State split a pair of doubles matches Saturday. Carla Muro Castellvi and Lily Cvanciger earned their third victory of the weekend defeating Osborne and Khotko of Western Michigan 6-4. Anna Grigoreva (6-3, 6-3) and Lilly Cvanciger (6-7 [5], 7-5, 10-6) earned wins over players from Wisconsin, a side that was in the top 25 last season. Hanmare McAslin added to the win total with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and Sarah Millard won by retirement.
Friday, the Red Wolves picked up five wins, two in doubles and three in singles. The doubles pair of Muro Castellvi and Cvanciger defeated Martaa Chogsomjav and Margaret Jaraczewski of Kansas State 6-3. Millard and McAslin added a 6-1 victory over Sienna Osborne and Polina Khotko of Western Michigan.
Three singles victories were earned Friday, highlighted by Grigoreva's 6-0, 6-2 win over Ida Clement of Purdue. McAslin prevailed over Osborne of Western Michigan 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 and Millard outlasted Charlotte Ruud of South Florida 3-6, 6-2, 11-9.
The Red Wolves return to action Oct. 3-4 at the Tulsa Invite.
