Malcolm Robinson Named A-State Defensive Ends Coach

JONESBORO, Ark. (2/20/26) – Arkansas State football head coach Butch Jones announced Friday that Malcolm Robinson has been named defensive ends coach. 
 
Robinson spent the last two seasons at Kent State. Before his stint at Kent State, Robinson was a graduate assistant at Pitt and got his coaching start with Akron as a defensive quality control coach.

In 2025, Robinson coached Jamond Mathis to second-team all-conference laurels after Mathis posted six sacks, six quarterback hurries, eight tackles for loss and three pass breakups. In his first season with the Flashes, Robinson led a defensive line group with one of the top sackers in the MAC as Kameron Olds ranked seventh in the league and 63rd nationally with six sacks. 
 
Before joining Kent State, Robinson was a defensive line graduate assistant at Pitt in the 2023 season. The Panthers totaled 31 sacks and 83 tackles for loss that season, ranking 27 nationally in sacks per game (2.58) and 16th in tackles for loss per game (6.9). Robinson arrived in Pittsburgh after serving as a defensive quality control assistant at Akron during the 2022 season. 
 
A defensive lineman collegiately, Robinson was a four-year member at Minnesota (2017-20) and a graduate year at Morgan State (2021). At Minnesota, he was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a member of two bowl champion teams – 2018 Quick Lane and 2019 Outback. He also earned Academic All-MEAC at Morgan state. 
 
A native of Massillon, Ohio, Robinson was a standout at Washington High School, where he was an All-Northeast Inland District performer collecting 26.5 tackles for loss as a senior.  
 
Robinson received his bachelor's degree from Minnesota in human resources development in 2020. He earned an MBA from Morgan State in 2021.
