JONESBORO, Ark. (3/28/26) – Arkansas State (17-9, 4-4 SBC) fell Saturday evening in extra innings to James Madison (12-13, 4-4 SBC), held scoreless after the sixth inning in the 11-10 loss at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
A-State opened the game with a bang, a leadoff walk and a double preceding a walk to load the bases set up a grand slam for
Derek Martinez. James Madison answered in the top of the second with the first two batters reaching the corners to set up a sac bunt, then a three-run homer to even the score at four.
The Red Wolves retook the lead the next frame with
AJ Mustow's first home run of the season to plate two, followed by another two runs in the fourth, set up by
Jake Henry Williams' first career triple. An RBI groundout scored Williams and
Joey McLaughlin III doubled before crossing home on a
Lane Walton RBI single.
JMU brought the game within three with a solo homer, but A-State tacked on their ninth run with a
Derek Martinez RBI single. Both squads traded runs in the sixth with an RBI groundout for JMU and Arkansas State loading the bases and walking in one of their own.
Down 6-10, JMU struck a two-run homer in the top of the eighth, then repeated it in the ninth to tie the game. A-State put runners on in the eighth, ninth, and 10th, but were unable to send them home as JMU knocked an RBI double in the top of the 11th for the go-ahead run.
