JONESBORO, Ark. (4/12/26) – Arkansas State (21-14, 7-8 SBC) put seven runners on in a row in the fifth inning to score five runs in the 6-3 Sunday victory against No. 11 Coastal Carolina (26-9, 13-2 SBC) to conclude the series at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
A pitching duel throughout the first four innings, starter
Dylan Farley let up two singles, a walk, and a HBP. Coastal found a pair of baserunners in the third inning, scoring one with a sac bunt. A-State responded in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double from
Jake Henry Williams, who was bunted over by
Kaden Amundson.
Ashton Quiller then put down another bunt allowing for Williams to tie up the score at one apiece.
The Chanticleers knocked a pair of singles to start the fifth inning, then moved both over on a sacrifice bunt. A double in the left-center gap scored the pair for the 3-1 lead in favor of the road team.
The Red Wolves juiced the bases on a walk and a pair of singles before finding their first out. A-State advanced on the base path to score one on a wild pitch leading into a passed ball on the third strike to tie the game and leave both runners safe on the corners. A-State took the lead on an
Evan Griffis RBI-single, then reloaded the bases after
Raul Torres took a HBP.
Cason Campbell moved everyone 90 feet off another single, then Griffis scored the fifth run of the inning from a
Cross Jumper sac fly before ending the inning up 6-3.
Back-to-back walks and a hit batter for Farley ended his day, with
Brett Foss taking over for the final out of the Chanticleers' half of the inning; a leaping lineout to Torres at short.
A-State again threatened in the seventh with the first two batters safely reaching, but the offense recorded three straight outs to end the inning before any damage was done. The eighth inning saw six total batters, with Foss striking out the final two in the top of the frame.
The ninth inning started off with drama, Foss and
Ryan Ashford both walking the only batters they saw in the inning. Senior
Cooper Garrison took the hill, striking out the first batter he faced before a fielder's choice placed runners at the corners with one out remaining. The Red Wolves secured the win with a popout in foul territory on the third base side.
Loss:Â Jaxon Appelman (0-1)
