MONROE, La. (4/17/26) – Arkansas State (23-14, 8-8 SBC) outlasted ULM (20-18, 8-8 SBC) in a 3-2 Friday night pitching duel at Lou St. Amant Field behind seven innings from starter
Andrew Allen and a two-inning save from
Cooper Garrison.
The Warhawks jumped first with four singles in a row in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two of them. A solo home run from
Cason Campbell in the top of the second inning put the Red Wolves on the scoreboard, his fifth homer of the season, and the team's 59th of the year.
A-State proceeded to put a runner on base each of the next three innings, but were unable to find any action until the fifth. A leadoff
Patrick Engskov double put him in position to move to third on a flyout before
Kaden Amundson joined him on a hit-by-pitch. Both runners moved 90 feet to tie the game after an errant pickoff try, and
Lane Walton singled out of the infield to score Amundson for the lead.
Andrew Allen carried the Red Wolves into the eighth inning, giving up just three hits from the second through the seventh. A triple in the eighth ended his night but
Cooper Garrison replaced him, sitting down a pair on strikeouts and drawing a flyout to freeze the dangerous ULM offense.
A-State looked for insurance in the top of the ninth inning but only found a two-out single from
Cougar Cooke. ULM put the tying run on with a one-out double, then added another baserunner after taking a hit-by-pitch, but back-to-back fielder's choice plays in the infield solidified the series opener in favor of Arkansas State.
Loss:Â Adam Brodnax (2-2)
