ROME, Ga. (4/24/26) – The fourth-seeded Arkansas State women's tennis team swept fifth-seeded Texas State 4-0 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center.
It is the first sweep for A-State at the SBC Championships since 2011. The Red Wolves secured a victory at the SBC Championships for the second consecutive season, marking the program's first back-to-back seasons with wins at the event since the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. A-State's 13 wins this season are most since 2008 (13-10).
A-State (13-8) improved to 11-0 this season when winning the doubles point.
Lilly Cvanciger and
Carla Muro Castellvi got the Red Wolves the first marker with a 6-2 win on court one and the pair of
Anna Grigoreva and
Sarah Millard clinched the point with a 6-1 win on court two.
Hanmare McAslin and
Helena Bueno were tied 3-3 on court three when the point was clinched.
Freshman
Meghna Arun Kumar continued her strong season with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court five against Stoney Cooks to make it 2-0. Arun Kumar improved to 14-4 in duals this season with wins in eight of her last nine matches. Muro Castellvi made it 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Charlotte Rosech on court four and Millard clinched the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 triumph against Anastasia Radovanovic on court six. When the match was clinched, Grigoreva trailed 6-7 (4), 4-3 on court one, Cvanciger was tied 6-2, 2-6, 3-3 on court two and McAslin trailed 6-7 (3), 3-3 on court three.
