Schmidt Named GCAA PING All-Region

NORMAN, Okla. (5/30/26) – Arkansas State men's golf senior Thomas Schmidt has been voted to the 2026 PING All-Central Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Saturday.

Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Year for the third consecutive season, Schmidt has posted his best season yet with a single-season program-record 69.21 scoring average ahead of the NCAA Championships this weekend. Schmidt won three events to be among eight players nationally with three or more wins on the season and added three more finishes inside the top 10, including a pair of runner-ups. Over 11 events played, he produced 27 of 33 rounds under par, including 16 in the 60s. Schmidt finished tied for third at the Sun Belt Conference Championship at 7-under par 209. He placed 21st at the Marana Regional at 5-under par 211 (69-71-71).

Helping lead the Red Wolves to their first appearance in the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish at the Marana Regional. Schmidt paced A-State in the opening round Friday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa with an even-par 72 to stand tied for 35th among 156 players on the biggest stage in collegiate golf.

Schmidt is the second player in program history to earn PING All-Region honors joining Julien Sale (2020-21). A-State begins the second round at the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon at 1:07 p.m. (PT) with live scoring on Scoreboard and live streaming coverage on Babygrande Golf.
