Kwon enters his fourth season on the Red Wolves coaching staff after joining the program in 2021. After spending his first season as the tight ends coach, Kwon’s coaching duties shifted to the offensive line in 2022.

Year two in the trenches saw a massive improvement for the Red Wolves. Center Jacob Bayer was the top-rated center in the Sun Belt Conference, ranked second in the Group of Five and third in FBS according to rankings by Pro Football Focus. Bayer earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors, the first offensive lineman for A-State to do so since 2018. Offensive lineman Makilan Thomas was a Second Team All-Sun Belt choice giving the Red Wolves two or more offensive linemen on the first or second teams since 2016. Jalen Cunningham, a participant at the Kansas City Chiefs mini-camp, was an Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt pick giving A-State three offensive linemen on the all-conference awards list last year. Bayer was also recognized for his work in the classroom becoming A-State football's first Academic All-American since 2013.

Statistically, A-State nearly doubled its rush offense from 88.2 yards per game in 2022 to 162.1 yards per game in 2023. After finding the endzone just four times via the ground game in 2021, the Red Wolves have 35 rushing touchdowns over the last two seasons, 16 in 2022 and 19 in 2023. The offense allowed 48 sacks in 2021, but brought the number down to 27 in 2023 after allowing 38 in 2022.

In his first season working with the offensive line, A-State produced 16 rushing touchdowns, most since having 18 back in 2018. Kwon guided Jordan Rhodes to All-Sun Belt recognition with Rhodes making 11 starts at right guard. Rhodes was invited to minicamp with the New Orleans Saints becoming the first A-State offensive lineman since Lanar Bonner (2019) to have an NFL opportunity.

Whlle working with the tight ends, Kwon helped guide freshman Emmanual Stevenson to Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention honors last year. Stevenson ended his true freshman season with 22 receptions for 193 yards and a pair of scores.

Four tight ends contributed in the passing game for A-State last season by recording a combined 37 receptions for 325 yards and three scores, while also playing a role in the Red Wolves’ rushing attack that featured running back Alan Lamar, a Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as an all-purpose player.

Kwon comes to Arkansas State after most recently spending three seasons working with Jones at Alabama as an offensive line graduate assistant coach, helping the Crimson Tide post an 11-0 record and No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings in 2020.

His first two seasons with the program in 2018 and 2019 saw it compile a combined 25-3 record. The 2018 team played in the CFP national championship game, while the 2019 squad capped off the year with a 35-16 win over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl to finish ranked No. 8 in the final AP Top 25 poll.

Kwon also completed a “Bill Walsh Minority Internship” with the Cleveland Browns in May of 2019.

Prior to his time at Alabama, Kwon served as an offensive graduate assistant coach at Akron during the 2017 season. That year, the program soared to first place in the MAC East with huge victories over Ohio and Kent State to claim the division title and a spot in the MAC Championship game for the second time in program history and first time since 2005. Akron also advanced to an FBS bowl for the second time in three years, another program first.

A two-year team captain and two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection as an offensive lineman at Georgia Southern, Kwon participated in an undrafted free agent tryout for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals following his collegiate playing career. He was also a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List during his time with the Eagles.

Kwon earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2017 from Georgia Southern University before going on to receive his Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama in 2020.

Kwon and his wife, Tessa, were married in December 2022.
