Owning over 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, including prior stops at Arkansas State, Boise State, Auburn and Appalachian State, Jeff Jones enters his third year in 2023 as the Red Wolves’ Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Performance.
Jones came to Arkansas State owning previous Sun Belt Conference championships with both the Mountaineers (2019) and Red Wolves (2012), while also collecting an SEC title at Auburn in 2013 and WAC championships at Boise State in 2006, 2008 and 2009. During his time at the four schools, they combined to play in 11 bowl games.
Jones arrived at Arkansas State after most recently spending the 2020 season as the director of athletic performance at Fairfield (Iowa) High School, which followed a one-year stint in the same role at Appalachian State when the Mountaineers claimed the 2019 New Orleans Bowl championship.
Prior to his time in Boone, NC, Jones spent three seasons (2016-18) overseeing the athletics performance program for Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
Jones was the lead assistant athletic performance coach at Auburn for three seasons (2013-15) as well, working with a Tigers football program that appeared in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game and three consecutive bowl games.
Making his second stop in Jonesboro, Jones also spent the 2012 season in the top assistant position for the athletics performance staff at A-State. His initial year at A-State saw the Red Wolves win 10 games while claiming a second straight Sun Belt championship.
Jones began his coaching career at Boise State, working as a graduate assistant on the athletic performance staff in 2006 before taking over a full-time assistant position with the Broncos from 2007-11.
Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science-health promotion from Central College in Pella, Iowa, in 2006 before going on to earn his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in foundational studies from Boise State University in 2011.
Jeff and his wife, Rachel, have one son, Colt.
