Spencer Grubbs begins his first season at Arkansas State in 2021 as the Red Wolves’ Director of Scouting and Pro Liaison.

Grubbs’ path to A-State included stops at Austin Peay State (2019-20), Old Dominion (2017-18) and Tennessee (2014-17), working with each program’s recruiting efforts.

Most recently, he spent the last two seasons as Austin Peay’s Director of Recruiting, helping the Governor’s achieve the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in 2021. The program claimed the 2019 OVC championship and made its first FCS postseason appearance in school history, advancing to the third round of the playoffs and finishing with a school-record 11 wins.

During Grubbs’ two seasons in Clarksville, Tenn., the program featured 16 all-conference and nine All-American players, as well as an OVC Freshman of the Year and OVC Newcomer of the Year.

Prior to his time at Austin Peay, Grubbs served as an assistant director of recruiting for two years at Old Dominion.  He was instrumental in the Monarchs signing the highest-rated recruiting class in school history, which helped lead to an upset of Virginia Tech in 2018.

Grubbs was also a recruiting assistant Tennessee for four seasons, working with current A-State head coach Butch Jones as the Volunteers claimed Outback, TaxSlayer and Music City bowl-game titles.  While he was with the Vols, they assembled four top-15 national recruiting classes.

Grubbs earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tennessee in 2017. He graduated from Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) in 2013 and was a member of the baseball and football teams, helping the school to a baseball state championship in 2010.
