Corey Brewer joined the Arkansas State men's basketball staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, bringing 13 seasons of NBA playing experience and six seasons of coaching experience with the New Orleans Pelicans.
A native of Portland, Tennessee, Brewer spent six seasons with the Pelicans, joining the organization as a player development coach ahead of the 2020-21 season. He was elevated to assistant coach on Willie Green's staff in 2024-25. During his two seasons as an assistant coach, New Orleans ranked inside the top 10 nationally in both steals and blocks per game, averaging 8.5 steals and 5.2 blocks per game in 2024-25 and 8.9 steals and 5.2 blocks in 2025-26.
Brewer joined the Pelicans following a 13-year NBA career that included stops with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings. Selected seventh overall by Minnesota in the 2007 NBA Draft, Brewer appeared in 819 regular-season games with 310 starts, averaging 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Brewer was part of the Dallas Mavericks' 2010-11 NBA championship team. On April 11, 2014, he scored a career-high 51 points and recorded six steals in Minnesota's 112-110 win over Houston. He is one of six players in NBA history to score at least 50 points and record six steals in the same game.
Prior to his professional career, Brewer helped lead the University of Florida to back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2006 and 2007. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 Final Four after averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in the Gators' two games. Brewer also earned 2006 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and was selected to the 2006 Final Four All-Tournament Team.
Brewer averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals during his three seasons at Florida. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2004-05, Second Team All-SEC honors in 2005-06 and First Team All-SEC recognition in 2006-07.
Brewer was named TSSAA Class AA Mr. Basketball as a senior at Portland High School and earned McDonald's All-American honors.
