Shannon Niemeier is entering her third season as an assistant coach with the Arkansas State volleyball program after coming to Jonesboro with head coach Santiago Restrepo prior to the 2019 season.

Niemeier (nee-myer) came to Arkansas State after one season as an assistant for Restrepo at Oklahoma City University. In her lone season with the Stars, Niemeier helped the team to a 31-6 record, the Sooner Athletic Conference title and an appearance in the NAIA Championships. OCU featured an NAIA All-American, four NAIA Scholar Athletes, Sooner Athletic Conference Hitter of the Year, six all- conference picks, five academic all-conference picks and four conference scholar athletes.

Prior to joining Restrepo at OCU, Niemeier was an assistant coach at Edmond (Okla.) North High School. She coordinated, trained and conducted fundamental volleyball mechanics and techniques drills for individual players and the team. She developed and implemented a comprehensive training curriculum for player development, focusing not only on their physical game, but also built their mental game.

Niemeier was an assistant for one season at her alma mater, Mid-America Christian University. She coordinated travel arrangements, managed team social media platforms, assisted the head coach in managing and directing the program and assisted with recruiting.

A four-year standout at Mid-America Christian, the Carlsbad, New Mexico, native was a two-time all-region selection and three time all-conference selection. She was the team captain for three seasons and holds the record for most kills in a match at Mid-America Christian. She currently ranks second in kills at MACU.
