A-State Completes Play at Mountaineer Intercollegiate

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (10/11/16) – The Arkansas State men's golf team completed play Tuesday at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate, placing tied for 12th among 14 teams with a combined 899 recorded at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

Following a weather delay, the Red Wolves recorded a first-round 302 yesterday and began the second round before play was suspended due to darkness.  A-State resumed play this morning by completing the second 18 holes with a 295, which was followed by another 302 recorded for final round.

The Red Wolves finished six strokes ahead of Marshall, tied with Toledo and within four strokes of 10th-place Memphis and Seton Hall.  Arkansas claimed the tournament championship with an 858, while Mississippi State shot an 869 to finish runner-up and Akron posted an 875 to place third.

“We definitely had some bright spots against a very talented field, but we certainly weren't pleased with our results,” said A-State head coach Mike Hagen.  “We're still trying to find a consistent lineup – we have a few guys who have established themselves in the lineup, but we still need to find who is going to fill that final spot.  We have two more events this fall that I feel good about, and hopefully we can gain some momentum with a couple of good performances.”

Competing in his first collegiate event, Zan Luka Stirn finished tied for 13th place to lead the Red Wolves.  The freshman recorded a 217, including a third-round 70 that was the lowest score of the tournament by an A-State player.

Junior Tanner Napier, sophomore Joel Wendin and freshman Patrik Jericha all finished among the top-50 players for A-State.  Napier placed tied for 33rd with a 224, Wendin tied for 39th with a 225 and Jericha tied for 50th with a 228.  Jericha competed as an individual.

Also playing for the Red Wolves, junior Andrew Huseman shot a 233 to finish 63rd, and freshman Nikolaj Dahl recorded a 244 to place 76th.

A-State returns to action Oct. 24-25 at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga.
