PALM BEACH, Fla. (12/08/08) ? Arkansas State junior placekicker
Josh Arauco was honored Monday night at the Lou Groza Award Nominees Dinner at
The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
Arauco is one of three finalists for the 2008 Lou Groza Award, given annually
by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission to the top placekicker in college
football.
Also nominated for the award are Graham Gano of Florida State and
Louie Sakoda of Utah. The winner will be
announced live on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show Thursday
night on ESPN.
Arauco connected on 17-of-20 field goals for ASU this season,
including a 4-of-4 effort in the season opening, 18-14 victory at Texas A&M. Arauco's effort against Texas A&M started
a string of 15 consecutive field goals without a miss. He was also good on 37-of-38 extra points on
the year.
Prior to the nominees dinner, Arauco and the other finalists
conducted a clinic for aspiring middle and high school kickers from throughout
Palm Beach County.
Tuesday, the nominees will visit Children's Hospital at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Palm Beach before heading to the Palm Beach Convention Center
for Tuesday night's award banquet.
