TROY, Ala. (9/28/08) ? Troy (6-3-2, 1-1 SBC) grinded out a 1-0 decision over the Arkansas State (3-6, 0-2 SBC) soccer team Sunday, handing the Red Wolves their second straight conference loss.
Nicole Targa scored the only goal of the match to give the Trojans the victory in the 21st minute (20:46). Targa played a pass from Jill Pinder behind the ASU defense and sent a shot into the ceiling of the net to score the deciding goal.
“Give credit to Troy they played extremely hard and found a way to be scrappy and score a goal to get the win,” said Arkansas State head coach
Derek Pittman. “We played extremely hard in the second half and created a lot of chances we have got to continue to plug away and find a way to make those chances equal goals.”
The Red Wolves outshot troy 14-13, taking seven shots on goal to the Trojans eight.

Megan Stoltzfus made a career-high seven saves in goal for the Red Wolves.
“We knew that conference play was going to be that much harder and that much more intense we have to get home and get ready to play four straight matches at home and find a way to get a win in conference,” said Pittman.
ASU returns home for a four game homestand beginning on Oct. 3 when they face Louisiana-Lafayette at 4 p.m. The Red Wolves will don pink jerseys for the match in support of cancer research, fans are encouraged to support the cause by wearing pink. The jerseys will be auctioned off on Oct. 5 during the Red Wolves match with Louisiana-Monroe, 50-percent of proceeds for the matches will go to the Susan G. Koman foundation.
