ASU Adds Virginia Tech to 2011 Football Schedule

JONESBORO (7/29/09) – Arkansas State Director of Athletics Dr. Dean Lee announced Wednesday that the ASU football team has added Virginia Tech to its 2011 football schedule, signing a one-million dollar contract that will take the Red Wolves back to Lane Stadium/Worsham Field for the first time since the 2002 season.

The one-million dollar agreement matches the contract for the same amount with Auburn that was announced in March.

The game, scheduled for Sept. 17, will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams, which met in 1994 and 1997 in addition to the 2002 game that was the first for head coach Steve Roberts at ASU. The Hokies are heading into their 45th season at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field, which seats 66,233 and has sold out the last 68 games.

Virginia Tech is one of three opponents from the ACC the Red Wolves have ever faced.  ASU also played Miami in 1997 and North Carolina State in 2000.

Virginia Tech is now the second non-conference opponent on ASU's 2011 schedule, which also features a game against long-time rival Memphis at ASU Stadium.  While the Red Wolves home game against Memphis on Sept. 10, 2011 will conclude a four-year home-and-home series, a new two-year home-and-home series with the Tigers guarantees that ASU's oldest rivalry game will continue through at least 2013.

The ASU football team kicks off its 2009 season at home against Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 5 at ASU Stadium. Season tickets for ASU's five home games are on sale at the ASU Ticket Office.  For more information, contact the ASU Ticket Office at 870-972-ASU1 or the Red Wolf Club at 870-972-2401. Ticket information can also be found online at AStateRedWolves.com.
