JONESBORO (4/26/10) - The Seattle Seahawks have announced they have agreed to terms with undrafted college free agent Marcus Brown (Marianna, Ark.), who completed his outstanding career as a defensive back on the Arkansas State football team last season. Brown must still sign a contract with the Seahawks before practicing with the team.
Brown recorded 50 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups and one forced fumble during the 2009 season. He finished his ASU career with 123 tackles, including a career-best 57 in 2008. He had one interception during the 2008 season and nine career pass break-ups. He returned a fumble 71 yards for a touchdown against ULM in 2008 that was the second longest in school history.
Brown is expected to join over 100 other all-time Arkansas State players that have signed pro contracts with an NFL franchise. While defensive end Alex Carrington and David Johnson were both taken in the 2009 and 2010 NFL Drafts, respectively, Brown will become the first ASU player to sign a free agent contract with an NFL franchise since cornerback Darren Toney and safety Khayyam Burns both signed in 2008.
