JONESBORO, Ark.
(10/14/2011) — The Arkansas State football team placed 11 players on Phil Steele's 2011 Midseason All-Sun
Belt Conference Team that was announced Friday by the annual football
publication.
Three
players were named to the publication's first team. Senior wide receiver Dwayne Frampton was
joined on the first team by senior defensive end Brandon Joiner and senior
center Tom Castilaw, who was also named to the publication's midseason
honorable mention All-American team.
Frampton
caught a school-record 13 passes for a career-high 147 yards last week against
ULM, extending his streak of consecutive games with at least one reception to
18. Frampton is ranked 10th in the nation in receptions (7.8
rpg) and tied for 24th in receiving yards (101.0 ypg).
Dating back
to last season, Joiner has recorded at least 0.5 sacks in eight of ASU's last 11 games and he has at least a partial sack in four of ASU's first
six games this season.
The anchor
and lone returning starter on ASU's offensive line, Castilaw is on the
Rimington Award watch list for the nation's top center, was a second-team
all-conference selection a year ago, and was on numerous preseason all
conference teams heading into the season.
Junior wide
receiver Josh Jarboe was named to the second team along with senior cornerback
Darryl Feemster and senior free safety A.J. Hills. Frampton was also named as the publication's
second-team punt returner.
Jarboe is
ranked fourth in the league in receiving yards per game (68.8), seventh in
receptions (5.0) and was named to the College Football Performance Awards list
after catching seven passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in the Red Wolves'
47-3 victory over Memphis.
Feemster
has recorded one interception in each of the last two games and has three over
the last four games. His team-high three interceptions places him tied
for the second-most in the Sun Belt Conference.
Hills
recorded a career-high 11 tackles in the Red Wolves' 26-22 victory at Western
Kentucky and recorded nine last week against ULM. He has at least nine
stops in three games, has led A-State in tackles in three of six games, has a
team-best 46 total stops and is ranked No. 10 in the Sun Belt in tackles.
Named to
the third-team were senior left tackle Delano Moore, senior linebacker Demario
Davis, senior strong safety Kelcie McCray and sophomore placekicker Brian
Davis.
Moore has
started all six games for ASU this season and has helped the Red Wolves'
offense to a #3 ranking in the league in total offense (464 ypg) and in scoring
(28.7 ppg).
Named to
the preseason Lombardi Award watch list, Demario Davis is third on the team
with 33 tackles, including three tackles-for-loss and a sack.
McCray was
named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week after
recording two interceptions against ULM.
His two interceptions were a career high and tied for the second-most in
the nation this season. He returned his
second pickoff 51 yards to set up what proved to be the winning touchdown.
After
breaking the ASU and Sun Belt Conference records for
both field goals made in a game (6) and points scored by kick (23) during the
Red Wolves' game against Central Arkansas, Brian Davis received
numerous honors. Davis, who was only one field goal and one point shy
tying NCAA records, was named a Lou Groza Star of the Week, the Sun Belt
Conference Special Teams Player of the Week and the College Football
Performance Awards' National Placekicker of the Week.
The Red
Wolves will be back in action Oct. 18, when they will host Florida
International in a nationally-televised Sun Belt Conference clash. Kickoff for the Tuesday night ESPN2 telecast
is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
