JONESBORO, Ark. (10/31/2011) — Following
his performance in ASU's 37-14 victory over North Texas Saturday night,
Arkansas State junior quarterback Ryan Aplin has been named as the Sun Belt
Conference Offensive Player of the Week by Rivals.com
and College Sports Madness. Both
Rivals.com and CollegeSportsMadness.com
name the players who make the highest impact player nationally and one from
each conference in their weekly features.
Aplin
topped the 300-yard passing mark for the second time this season in leading ASU
to the win over the Mean Green to improve to 6-2 overall and a league-best 4-0
in SBC action. Aplin was on target from
the start, completing his first seven passes to finish with 332 yards on 28 of
42 attempts, throwing to nine receivers for a career-high 3 touchdowns. Aplin added 69 rushing yards to finish the
game with 391 yards of total offense and help the Red Wolves pile up 540 yards
against the Mean Green.
Ranked
first in the Sun Belt Conference and 11th nationally at 315 yards of
total offense per game, Aplin became the third ASU player to top 7,000 yards of
total offense, the third to complete 500 passes in his career and moved into
third place on the ASU all-time touchdown chart with 34 career touchdown
passes.
Aplin and the league-leading Red Wolves will be back in action Saturday
when ASU travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Owls of Florida Atlantic in
a 3:00 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup.
