LAS CRUCES, N.M. (4/11/14) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision against New Mexico State Friday afternoon at the New Mexico State Tennis Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Red Wolves (6-8) were swept in doubles action by the Aggies (8-11) to fall behind 1-0 early.  Julie Gauguery defeated Annemieke Witte 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 to record A-State's only point of the afternoon.  Tamara Slijepcevic lost a tough three-set match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 to Ashvarya Shrivastava and Biljana Miloshevska lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to Denise Van Der Ben in other singles action.

Arkansas State's Janie Nowland played tough but lost a couple of tough sets in a 7-6, 7-5 loss to Susana Alcaraz.  Chiara Stefanov lost in straight sets to Ros-Polly Nguyen 6-1, 6-4 while Jess Heeps-Eriksen didn't fare much better in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Brittany Collens.

“It was disappointing to lose the match 6-1 after competing for four and a half hours,” A-State women's tennis coach Marina Engelbrecht said.  “We just didn't finish the matches we had opportunities in.  I hope we can play together as a team and everyone does their job tomorrow.”

The Red Wolves stay in Las Cruces, N.M. for a match with Idaho Saturday.  First serve is set for noon (CT).
