JONESBORO, Ark. (3/10/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Iowa State Thursday morning at RidgePointe Country Club.
Julie Gauguery had a strong effort in the No. 1 match against Samantha Budai. The A-State junior battled Budai to a 6-3 loss in the first set and then nearly forced a tiebreak in the second set before Budai pulled away late with a 6-4 victory.
Victoria Roberts dropped the open set 6-0 in the No. 2 match, but bounced back and fell 6-2 to Liza Buss in the second set. In the No. 3 match Chiara Stefanov fell to Ana Kuuttila 6-0, 6-1, which clinched the match for Iowa State.
The No. 4, 5 and 6 matches each went just one set with Sabina Jeresic falling 8-6, while Sofia Krsmanovic suffered an 8-5 setback. Victoria Pisani lost her match by a score of 8-1.
In doubles' competition, Gauguery and Roberts lost to Budai and Buss 6-0 in the No. 1 match, while Krsmanovic and Pisani lost to Annabella Bonadonna and Alejandra Galvis by a score of 6-3. The No. 3 doubles' match was called once the doubles' point had been decided with Jeresic and Sefanov trailing 3-2
