A-State Men?s Golf Signs Stirn

JONESBORO, Ark. (5/26/16) – Arkansas State head men's golf coach Mike Hagen announced Thursday that 2016 Slovenian amateur champion Zan Luka Stirn has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Red Wolves beginning in the 2016-17 season.

A member of the Slovenia national team since age 14, Stirn is listed as the No. 260 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). He is a multiple junior national Slovenia champion who helped lead his team a 22nd place finish in the International Golf Federation's (IGF) 2014 World Amateur Team Championships.

“I've been recruiting Zan Luka for almost the entire year and watched him play in multiple tournaments where he has been very impressive, so we're excited to have him joining our team,” said Hagen. “He obviously has a lot of international playing experience, and I think he'll be able to come in and contribute right away because of that. He is not only a tremendous golfer, but also a well-rounded individual who possesses a lot of strengths both on and off the golf course.”

Stirn won the Ukrainian amateur championship in 2013 and placed 10th in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. The Kranj, Slovenia, native won his first national amateur event at age 15 and finished tied for 17th at the British amateur boy championship in 2015.

Stirn joins Patrik Jericha, a Czech Republic native from Prague, as part of A-State's most recent signing class. The Red Wolves completed the 2015-16 season with a school-record five outright tournament championships and placed third at the Sun Belt Conference Championship for the program's best finish at the tourney since collecting runner-up honors in 1999.
