A-State Men's Golf Tied for Second at Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. (03/19/18) – The Arkansas State men's golf team completed the opening two rounds of the Lone Star Invitational tied for second place among a field of 15 teams after carding a 36-hole total of 578 Monday at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

 

Ranked No. 64 in the country by Golfstat, the Red Wolves shot a first-round 288 before adding a second-round 290. A-State sits 13 strokes back from tournament leader Oklahoma, which recorded a two-round score of 565. The Red Wolves are tied with UTEP and are three strokes ahead of New Mexico State, Little Rock, and UTSA, which are all tied for fourth place.

 

Junior Jakub Bares and sophomore Zan Luka Stirn each finished the Lone Star Invitational's first two rounds among the top-25 individuals. Bares recorded a 70 for each of the first two rounds to place him tied for first place with a 140, while Stirn sits tied for sixth place after matching his season low with a first-round 68 before following that up with a second-round 74.

 

Also competing for the Red Wolves, senior Tanner Napier and junior Joel Wendin are each tied for 39th place with a 148. Napier carded a 76 and an even-par 72, while Wendin recorded consecutive 74s for the opening two rounds. Sophomore Matthew Cole is tied for 72nd place with a 36-hole 155 after posting a first-round 77 and second-round 78.

 

The third-and-final round of the Lone Star Invitational will be played on Tuesday.
