JONESBORO, Ark. (11/4/20) –
Sarah Sodoma scored the lone goal to lead the Arkansas State Women's Soccer team past Appalachian State 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, Wednesday evening at the Foley Sports Complex.
Following the win, the Red Wolves advance to the Semifinals and improve to a respectable 9-1-1 (8-0-1) on the year. The shutout over the Mountaineers marks the ninth shutout of the year for A-State.
In the 23rd minute,
Olivia Smith sent a beautiful ball over the top to
Hailey Furio. Furio then gathered and advanced the ball up the right side before sending it across to Sodoma. Sodoma then sent a header through the right side of the net, giving the Red Wolves a 1-0 advantage over the Mountaineers.
Arkansas State has outshot its opponents in 11-straight contests, outshooting App State 21-5. The Red Wolves placed six shots on target compared to App State's 1. A-State earned awarded three corners in the match.
Sodoma took a game-high eight shots in the contest as she placed three on target.
Haley Husted added to the Red Wolves offensive efforts by taking three as one to fell on target. Furio,
Maggie Ertl, and
Riley Minard took a pair of shots each.
Megan McClure made one save in the contest as she registered her ninth shutout of the season.
A-State will return to action Friday, Nov. 6, and take on the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 2 Georgia State and No. 6 Troy. Kickoff is set for 7 P.M.
