STARKVILLE, Miss. (3/13/21) – Continuing the spring portion of the 2020-21 schedule, the Arkansas State women's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
Mississippi State (4-4-3) took the lead in the 15th minute on an impressive strike by Hannah Telleysh. A turnover in the defensive third helped the Bulldogs ramp up the offensive pressure and Telleysh gathered the ball 25 yards away and sent a rocket to the left side of the net for the goal.
A-State (11-3-1) had a good chance to respond after Mississippi State was whistled offside. After a kick by McClure was flicked ahead, Sodoma had a run and go a left-footed shot off that sailed high from 20 yards away. The Bulldogs took the 1-0 advantage to the halftime break.
Mississippi State increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 51st minute. Madison Cotta served the ball to Marcella Cash and the header got past McClure for the tally. Sodoma nearly answered three minutes later, but the strike was stopped by Pimentel.
Both teams placed five shots on goal in the match and the Bulldogs had a 13-9 edge in total shots. Five different A-State players logged shots on goal with Sodoma having a team-high three total shots among the team leaders. Maddy Anderson started for Mississippi State in goal and had three first half saves while Pimentel had a pair of stops in the second frame.
Megan McClure secured three saves in goal for the Red Wolves.
