A-State’s Williams Set to Compete at World Championships

JONESBORO, Ark. (7/14/22) – Arkansas State track and field assistant coach Will Williams is set to compete on the world's top stage as part of Team USA beginning Friday.

The Red Wolves' horizontal jumps coach is one of four from the United States' squad competing in the men's long jump at the 2022 World Track & Field Championships, beginning Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. This year marks the first time the U.S. has played host to the outdoor championships.

Williams jumps in Group B of the qualifying round on Friday, which begins at approximately 8 p.m. CT. The top 12, as well as any other athletes who record a jump of 8.15 meters (26-9.0) or better, will advance to Saturday's final.

The A-State assistant ranks 24th in the world in the event and owns a season-best mark of 8.12 meters (26-7.75). He also boasts a personal-best mark of 8.19 meters (26-10.5).
