A-State Falls in Lafayette 3-1

LAFAYETTE, La. (10/19/23) – Playing down a player the final 48:08 of the match, the Arkansas State women's soccer team fell 3-1 Thursday night to Louisiana.

Freshman Tindra Cederholm gave A-State (4-6-4, 2-3-3 SBC) the lead just four minutes into the match. Sarah Strong served a free kick from the center circle to the box and Cederholm headed the ball inside the post for her first career goal. Strong earned an assist for the third consecutive match and fourth of the season.

Louisiana (6-7-2, 3-5-0) equalized in the 30th minute and the fixture went to halftime knotted at 1-1. At 51:52, a red card was issued to Darby Stotts and the Ragin' Cajuns scored 33 seconds later to take the 2-1 advantage. Louisiana added to the lead with a goal in the 67th minute to set the final margin.

Despite playing down a player, A-State put together a strong attack over the 48 minutes. The Red Wolves fired 10 shots, two on goal, and had two corner kicks over those 48 minutes. With three minutes to play, the A-State found the back of the net, but a foul was whistled on the Red Wolves to negate the possible score.

A-State ended the evening with a 16-15 shots advantage, but the Ragin' Cajuns had an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Olivia Luther made five saves between the posts for A-State.  The two sides combined for 32 fouls in the match, 18 on A-State, and 11 corners, five by the Red Wolves.

The Red Wolves host Appalachian State Sunday at noon on ESPN+. Senior Day festivities will take place ahead of warm-ups at approximately 10:55 a.m.
