BOONE, N.C. (10/20/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (3-5-5, 0-4-3 SBC) mounted a late rally against App State (6-4-5, 3-1-3 SBC), but fell short in a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Red Wolves were outshot 17-14 by their opponents, but both teams tallied six shots-on-goal.
Mckenzie Robinson had the lone goal for A-State while
Zoie Kempf,
Alex Schwartz, and
Omamuzo Edafe led the team with three shots apiece.
After taking three shots in a five-minute span, Izzi Wood put the Mountaineers on the board in the 27th minute with a shot to the top-right corner. The Red Wolves had three opportunities to score before the first half concluded, but two blocks and a save thwarted the effort.
A penalty kick would be awarded to the Scarlet and Black in the 74th minute of action, but the shot from Omamuzo was saved. Nearly four minutes later, Wood extended the deficit with another goal, making the score 2-0.
A-State quickly responded with a goal from Robinson at the 80:10 mark, with
Nicoline Hansen providing the assist. It was the first goal of Robinson's career and Hansen's third assist of the season.
The Red Wolves would not take another shot beyond that point, resulting in their first loss in 10 days.
