HARRISONBURG, Va. (10/23/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (3-6-5, 0-5-3 SBC) battled early against James Madison (9-3-3, 7-0-1 SBC), but a second half surge was too much for the Red Wolves during a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday night at Sentara Park.
Mckenzie Robinson led the team with two shots, both on goal, while
Emma Riley and
Tindra Cederholm had one opportunity apiece. On the flip side,
Damaris Deschaine returned to action and tallied six saves in the contest.
The first half was a defensive battle that saw both sides trade blows early before the Dukes began to apply pressure. The Red Wolves faced five of the final six shots in the half, but two misses and three saves from Deschaine kept the score 0-0 going into intermission.
James Madison broke through in the 50th minute when Ginny Lackey found the lower-right corner of the net for a goal. The Red Wolves surrendered another on a header from Amanda Attanasi at the 63:08 mark, making the score 2-0.
The Scarlet and Black were unable to record a shot in the final 45 minutes of action, resulting in the fifth defeat in conference play this season.
