JONESBORO, Ark. (10/27/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (4-6-5, 1-5-3 SBC) withstood a barrage of shots from Old Dominion (9-5-3, 4-2-3) on Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex, using a late goal to claim a 1-0 victory.
The Monarchs outshot A-State 22-6 and held the advantage in shots-on-goal (9-2), but
Damaris Deschaine recorded a team high of nine saves.
Emma Riales scored the lone goal of the match while
Keelyn Peacock led the team with two shots.
The Red Wolves held possession for 41 percent of the match and recorded one corner kick.
Old Dominion tallied nine shots with two on target in the first half, but Deschaine thwarted the shots on goal in the 32nd and 39th minutes. The Scarlet and Black took their first shot of the match in the 19th minute, ending a 70:09 stretch without a shot.
The Monarchs maintained pressure in the second half, recording eight shots in the first 30 minutes.
Despite the shot and possession disparity, A-State found a break in the 78th minute when
Zoie Kempf found
Emma Riales for a score. Riales has three goals this season and five in her career while Kempf notched her second career assist.
Deschaine overcame a fierce response from Old Dominion in the final 12 minutes, recording a save on all five shots to secure the Scarlet and Black's first victory since Sept. 8 at Western Kentucky.
