FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (11/24/24) – Arkansas State women's basketball (2-3, 0-0 SBC) fought early against Arkansas (4-3, 0-0 SEC), but the Red Wolves were overwhelmed in the second half, falling 76-60 on Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena.
Anna Griffin led the team with a season-high 16 points while
Kennedie Montue was not far behind at 13.
Wynter Rogers returned to the starting lineup, scoring eight and tying Griffin with a team-leading eight boards in the contest.
As a team, A-State shot 23-for-74 (31.1 percent) from the floor and 9-for-35 (25.7 percent) from deep. The Scarlet and Black outscored their opponents 19-10 in points off turnovers and 42-10 in bench points.
Both sides exchanged shots in the first six minutes, but a layup from Rogers followed by a Montue triple gave the Red Wolves a six-point advantage, finishing the opening quarter with a 21-15 lead. The Razorbacks turned it over six times, with Griffin leading the team at two steals.
Arkansas opened the second with a 13-4 run and held A-State scoreless for nearly four minutes after the 6:31 mark. Griffin and
Mimi McCollister drained back-to-back treys to start an 11-3 run that allowed the Scarlet and Black to claim a 38-35 lead at halftime.
A-State outscored the Razorbacks 12-6 in points off turnovers, 18-6 in the paint, and 26-2 in bench points during the first half.
A defensive battle opened the final half, with Arkansas getting the upper hand via a 17-7 run in the third. Montue and Griffin made a pair of three-pointers in the quarter, but the Red Wolves trailed 52-45 with one period to go.
Another trey from Griffin cut the deficit to three early in the final quarter, but a 10-0 stretch for the Razorbacks resulted in the first double-digit deficit of the game. The Red Wolves made a late push, but Arkansas scored 12 of the final 15 points to put the contest away.
