JONESBORO, Ark. (12/11/24) – After strong season-opening performances, Arkansas State's Jacob Pyeatt and Bradley Jelmert earned Sun Belt Conference track and field weekly honors Wednesday.
Pyeatt was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Jelmert earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week laurels.
Pyeatt's distinction comes after breaking his own record in the 5000 meters on Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston. The Mountain Home, Ark., native ran 13:55.40 - over 10 seconds faster than his previous program record and the fastest time in the Sun Belt after the opening week of competition. He is just the third Sun Belt athlete to run sub-14 minutes in the distance in the last 20 seasons.
Jelmert earned his honor after winning yet another pole vault competition on Saturday at the Crimson and Gold Invitational. The Watchung, N.J., native cleared 5.47m (17-11.25), which tops the NCAA by over eight inches. He has now won seven of his last eight indoor meets, the lone exception being his silver medal at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships.
