A-State Bounces Back in Win Over Jackson State, 76-65

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/7/24) – Arkansas State women's basketball (3-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) snapped a three-game losing skid against Jackson State (1-7, 0-0 SBC) by a score of 76-65 on Saturday afternoon inside First National Bank Arena.
 
Three Red Wolves reached double figures, with Zyion Shannon standing alone at 20 points while Anna Griffin was six points behind at 14. Wynter Rogers tallied 10 points and nine rebounds while Kennedie Montue finished with nine points and a career high 10 rebounds.
 
As a team, the Red Wolves shot 23-for-58 (39.7 percent) from three-point range and 12-for-32 (37.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The 12 three-pointers tie for the 11th-most in a game in program history.
 
A-State opened the first period on an 11-4 run powered by two triples from Shaunae Brown and a third from Shannon. The Scarlet and Black finished with five three-pointers in the quarter and shot 64.3 percent from the floor to claim a 25-14 advantage.
 
Jackson State responded with a pair of threes to open the second, jumpstarting a 10-2 run that put the Tigers within three points of tying the game. The Red Wolves pushed the lead back to double digits with 2:47 remaining and scored 12 of the final 15 points to take a 39-27 advantage into intermission.
 
Zyion Shannon led A-State with eight points in the first half while the team shot 11-for-28 (39.3 percent) from the field and 6-for-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range.
 
The Scarlet and Black claimed their largest lead of the game with 4:49 left in the third after Anna Griffin drained a three-pointer to move ahead 52-33. Both sides exchanged shots the rest of the way as the Red Wolves went into the final quarter ahead by 15.
 
The Tigers refused to quit, cutting the lead to nine points with 5:16 left to go in the fourth. Griffin, Montue, and Shannon put the game out of reach with a trio of triples over the next four minutes, as A-State claimed the victory.
