A-State Drops Match Against Georgia Southern, 2-0

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/26/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (3-3-2, 0-2-0 SBC) surrendered two goals on 11 shots during a shutout defeat against Georgia Southern (4-6-1, 1-1-0 SBC) on Thursday night at the A-State Soccer Complex.
 
Emma Riley led the team in shots while eight other players had a chance to score. As a team, the Red Wolves had five shots on goal but none would find the back of the net.
 
The Eagles held the edge in shots 11-10, while A-State recorded four corner kicks compared to three for their opponents.
 
Georgia Southern struck early with an unassisted goal from Meredith Pugh, breaking the scoreless tie in the fifth minute. The Scarlet and Black closed the first half and opened the second with six consecutive shots, but the Eagles tallied three saves and blocked two shots while A-State missed high in the 39th minute.
 
The Red Wolves fell behind 2-0 in the 54th minute following a goal from Claire Casey. Georgia Southern took four of the final five shots in the last 25 minutes, as A-State's only opportunity was blocked in the 84th minute.

A-State faces Appalachian State on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+.
