BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (9/8/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (3-1-2, 0-0-0 SBC) took the advantage early and held off a late rally by Western Kentucky (2-4-0, 0-0-0 CUSA) en route to a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Red Wolves were outshot by the Hilltoppers 10-7 and accounted for 12 of the 19 fouls called in the contest.
Nicoline Hansen recorded the lone assist by either team while
Damaris Deschaine tallied four saves against 10 shot attempts.
Maya Jones landed the first blow just over three minutes into the contest, finding the lower left corner of the net to put A-State ahead 1-0.
The next score came in the 71st minute after
Emma Riales notched her second goal of the season. Western Kentucky wasted little time with their response, scoring in the 72nd minute to cut the lead in half.
The Hilltoppers took the only shot in the final 25 minutes of action, missing high in the 88th minute. Neither side received another scoring opportunity as time expired, with the Scarlet and Black claiming their first road win of the season.

A-State is scheduled to restart their match against Central Arkansas on Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. inside the A-State Soccer Complex. The Red Wolves will stay in Jonesboro to open conference play against South Alabama on Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m.
