A-State Breaks Stalemate to Defeat Missouri State, 3-2

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/18/25) – Arkansas State baseball (10-10, 2-1 SBC) battled in a low-scoring contest against Missouri State (7-12, 0-0 MVC), eventually using a late run to secure a 3-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.

Chase Richter struck out five-of-six batters faced over 2.0 innings pitched in his first career start. Five relievers entered the contest, surrendering nine hits and two earned runs combined.

The Red Wolves put together four hits in eight innings, including two RBI-knocks from Ashton Quiller.

Missouri State scored the first run of the afternoon on an RBI-single to left center in the third inning. The Scarlet and Black fired back with a run of their own in the next frame, using an RBI-knock from Wil French to even the score at 1-1.

Quiller broke the stalemate in the fifth with a two-out single to the gap in left center, allowing Engskov to cross the plate uncontested. However, it was the Bears' turn to respond, tying the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Quiller landed another single in left field that allowed Engskov to reach home once again. Missouri State recorded a leadoff single in the ninth, but could not capitalize as A-State returns to the .500 mark for the first time since Feb. 17.

Carson Keithley (1-0) earned the win while Brody McNiel (0-1) took the loss.
