JONESBORO, Ark. (3/22/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis moved back into the win column Saturday, opening a four-match home stand with a 4-1 victory over Coastal Carolina at the A-State Tennis Complex.
The Red Wolves (10-5, 3-1 SBC) remained unbeaten when winning the doubles point, and then claimed three singles victories to topple the Chanticleers (9-5, 3-1). The victory was the program's first ever against CCU, halting a five-match skid in the all-time series.
A-State took a tightly-contested doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match, earning wins on Courts 2 and 3. Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin topped CCU's Sarah Clark and Katya Hersh 6-3 at No. 3 before the Chanticleers tightened things up with a 6-4 win on Court 1 by Nicole Abel and Anna Babayan over Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi.
The Red Wolves then clinched the point on Court 2 when Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer won a 7-5 match against Brunelle Kouam and Aida Maria Mitrache.
In singles, A-State claimed first sets on Courts 3, 5 and 6 to begin things. Millard gave the Red Wolves a quick 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 5 against Hersh, and then the Chanticleers made it 2-1 when Kouam topped McAslin on No. 4 by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Scarlet and Black added its third point with a win on Court 6 by Loles Carbo Chova, who defeated Clark 6-4, 6-0. Grigoreva then delivered the match-clinching win on Court 1, battling back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 against Babayan.
At the time the match ended, Cvanciger led 4-2 in the third set on Court 2, while Muro Castellvi led by a set on Court 3.
