A-State Wins 4-3 Thriller Over Georgia Southern Sunday

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/23/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis rallied back from a 3-2 deficit to win the final two singles matches and claim a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern Sunday at the Jonesboro Country Club.

Sarah Millard clinched the match for A-State (11-5, 4-1 SBC), battling back from a set down to earn the win. With the win over the Eagles (9-6, 1-3), the Red Wolves have tied their best win total since 2012 and the most conference wins since 2009.

"Today our Red Wolves tennis family painted our town red by defending our house against Georgia Southern," Millard said. "Everyone battled their hearts out and competed their way to victory. I felt honored to be on the court with such a spirited team and am looking forward to bringing it back next weekend. Wolves up!"

The Red Wolves claimed a tight, exciting doubles point to take the all-important 1-0 lead. Georgia Southern's Hannah Eifert and Franziska Heinemann topped Millard and Hanmare McAslin 6-1 on Court 3 before Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi evened the count with a 6-2 in on Court 1 over Juliette Nask and Evelyn Warkentin.

On Court 2, Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer came back from down 5-4 to win 7-5 and clinch the point for the Scarlet and Black.

The Eagles leveled the score at 1-all when Rinman won a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Grigoreva on Court 1 before making it 2-1 with Nask's 7-5, 6-4 win over Muro Castellvi at No. 3. Cvanciger then tied up the score at 2-2 by topping Warkentin in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory.

Georgia Southern then reclaimed the 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 by Heinemann over McAslin.

After Loles Carbo Chova won a 6-4, 6-3 decision at the No. 6 position over Nanaka Kijima, all eyes turned to Millard's match at No. 5 against Leopold. Millard sent the match to a third set with a 6-3 second-set score before clinching the match with a 6-4 outcome in the third frame.
