A-State Rolls to Victory Over Brown in Final Match at UCF Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. (9/13/25) – Arkansas State volleyball (5-5, 0-0 SBC) concluded competition at the UCF Invitational on a high note, sweeping Brown (2-3, 0-0 Ivy League) 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-21) on Saturday morning at The Venue.

Daedrianna Cail led the Red Wolves with 11 kills and a service ace on a .556 hitting percentage while posting a team-high four total blocks on the defensive side. As a team, A-State tallied 41 kills and 10 service aces on a .337 percentage and limited the opposition to a .100 clip.

Three service aces from Mia Maloney highlighted a 7-0 run to start the match, and the lead grew to 11 after the Scarlet and Black claimed seven of the next 11 rallies. A-State hit .414 with 15 kills to claim a 25-8 decision, the largest margin of victory in a set this season.

Brown led 9-7 in the second set, but back-to-back attack errors paired with a kill from Addison Collum sparked a 9-0 run that resulted in a 16-10 lead for the Red Wolves. The Bears broke the scoring run after winning a rally, but Cail and Payton Van Veen recorded four consecutive kills to stall any momentum for the opposition.

Devyn Lewis recorded two kills during a 4-0 scoring run that secured a 25-15 victory in the set and a 2-0 advantage in the match.

A-State faced heavy resistance in the third set, falling behind 4-2 before a kill from Lewis and a service ace from Cail paired with an attack error resulted in a 5-4 lead. An 11-8 advantage faded when the Bears claimed four consecutive rallies, but both sides exchanged points over the next 19 rallies.

Tied 21-21, a service error from the Bears was followed with a kill from Whitlock and back-to-back service aces from Collum, securing the sweep and pushing A-State back to a .500 record on the season.
